Dr. Lucky

Dr. Lucky

Dr. Lucky is a handsome and powerful cat who resides in Delaware, Ohio. Dr. Lucky received his undergraduate and masters degrees from the Delaware County Humane Society and then went on to obtain a Doctorate in Curiosity Studies from a major Ohio University. His dissertation was a starting point - "Fun With Bubble Wrap." Since completion of his Ph.D. Dr. Lucky has continued to ponder the mysteries of the universe including such bestsellers as "Life Without Thumbs"; "Why do Ducks Quack?" and "Dogs are Filthy Beasts." Always in a perpetual state of formality (he is a tuxedo cat, after all) Dr. Lucky has 'carried a torch' for a Tabby (she prefers "Tiger Princess")- Lady Lola Kitty although his deep love is unrequited. Dr. Lucky enjoys sleeping, eating Tuna and playing with his football. Extremely talkative, Dr. Lucky often lectures to the citizens of Delaware from the bay window of the home that he allows me to pay the mortgage for. A sports fan, Dr. Lucky's favorite baseball team is the Detroit Tigers (go figure!) and his favorite football team is the Cincinnati Bengals (another shock!). Dr. Lucky recently made headlines when he filed as lead plaintiff a class action law suit (on behalf of tuxedo cats everywhere) against the University of Pittsburgh, University of Northern Iowa, Florida National Hockey League Club, LLC, and Carolina National Football League Club, LLC for use of "likeness" without authorization. Since those teams are nicknamed "Panthers" Dr. Lucky contends that their mascots are some sort of trademark or copyright infringement. Every so often, he wants to know "How's my case coming?"

Dr. Lucky Seeks U.S. Senate
by: Anonymous

Dr. Lucky, PhD, Professor at CATS (College for Advanced Tuna Studies) has declared himself a candidate for the U.S. Senate. Dr. Lucky seeks to become the junior Senator from Ohio. "What we need is bold leadership, integrity and character in Washington. Also, we need nap time for everyone. Opponents have focused on Dr. Lucky's tight relationship with the tuna industry, seeking to smear his campaign as one funded by the tuna interests. Dr. Lucky pays them no heed - "I don't know anyone who doesn't like tuna salad or a good tuna casserole" he meowed to the Washington capital hill newspaper "Politico." If elected, Dr. Lucky will be the first aristocratic royalty ever to serve in the U.S. Senate. His official title is: His Lordship, Sir Dr. Lucky, Esq., Duke of Dornoch, Emissary to Her Majesty's Feline Service and Servant of the Kitty Empire.

Endowed Chair to Dr. Lucky
by: Anonymous

Dr. Lucky, Ph.D was recently named the Chicken of the Sea Endowed Chair in Tuna Studies at the College for Advanced Tuna Studies ("CATS") He is currently pursuing research in the area of Albacore Tuna and whether it should be packed in oil or water. When asked about data mining necessary to undertake such a study, Dr. Lucky meowed: "Its a lot like eating tuna. It has to be done fast and with skill. There is no room for sloppiness." The 'Albacore Study' as it has come to be called in academic circles is expected to be complete in time for next year's "Tuna Fest" and the subject of the annual lecture at the Vet School.

Mark Your Calendars for "Tuna Fest II"
by: Rich

Dr. Lucky, the Executive Director for the Institute for Bubblewrap Research would like felines everywhere to know that "Tuna Fest" was an unqualified success. "Tuna Fest" was undertaken by Dr. Lucky's leadership to be a week long celebration of all things "tuna." Sunday kicked off with the "Tuna Queen Pageant", Monday followed with the "Tuna Parade" Tuesday was a day of games such as "Pin the Fin on the Tuna." Wednesday was the "Tuna Caserole Contest" Thursday was the "Tuna Salad Contest" and Friday were Dr. Lucky's remarks at a local vet school where he has guest lectured for 6 years now. Finally, Tuna Fest wrapped up on Saturday with "Tuna Treat Hunt" (variation on a theme of Easter Egg Hunts, but don't tell him). Tuna Fest II is being planned as of this time and will undoubtedly take place sometime between Mardi Gras and Easter of next year. Please mark your calendars accordingly....

Dr. Lucky's New Research
by: Anonymous

Dr. Lucky of Delaware, OH and Executive Director of the Institute for Bubblewrap Research is pleased to announce that a new book is forthcoming. "Why Stoves Are the Seventh Circle of Hell." Clearly borrowing from Dante, Dr. Lucky feels compelled to inform the feline world of the potential dangers in allowing one's curiosity to examine or investigate 'flat' stoves. In particular how the orange, circular glow can entice examination of the stove. This will only lead to potential harm. Writing from a personal perspective, Dr. Lucky will discuss the blistering that can occur to a cat's paw "fingers" and how the Veterinarian (Torture Chief) will state that this occurs more than you can imagine. Dr. Lucky intends to file suit against Amana for the creation of the flat stove and seeks monetary and treble damages for the intentional infliction of emotional distress. Any jury award will go to further research of the Institute for Bubblewrap Research. When asked why he ever so briefly touched the stove, he replied, "the orange glow was mesmerizing." Dr. Lucky would like to thank all of you for your cards and calls of concern. And as always, please attend the Delaware County Humane Society Fur Ball on Feb. 4th.

Dr Lucky

Giving medication to a cat can be quite an adventure. It can also be a comedy or a tragedy. But the "tuna method" seems like a perfect solution. I never thought of that while I was chasing my cat Mia when I had to give her medication.

With Max it's been a bit easier due to the wonderful invention called "Pill Pockets" (which come in different flavors). These little treat-like bits have a hole in the middle where you can put a pill. Of course, this works best for pills. Liquid medications are a different story.

I'm glad that Dr. Lucky likes his medication, I mean his tuna. And thank you so much for the update. I always enjoy reading about this special, scholarly feline.

"Tuna Time"
by: Rich

Thank you to all of you who have written or commented on the "handsome and powerful" James Bond of Tuxedo Cats....Dr. Lucky.
Just and update. It seems that Dr. Lucky is hyper-throid and we are taking medication. In order to get Dr. Lucky to take the mediation we masquerade it in shredded White Albacore Tuna. For all of his scholarly research, lecturing, and being a public intellectual in general - Dr. Lucky occasionally will lapse into the "I'm just a cat" methodology of getting what he wants. The alarm clock in the morning is no longer an alarm clock. It is now the "Tuna Clock" and it tells "Tuna Time" in order to remind His Lordship's Chief of Staff that it is the Chief of Staff's duty to obtain tuna and dole it out. Likewise when I return home at night, the good Dr. jumps upon the counter in the kitchen and actually pounds his paw up and down while meowing that it is in fact, "Tuna Time."

Dr Lucky
by: Claudia-Admin

I am appalled at the treatment given Dr. Lucky. Don't they see he's feline royalty?

By the way, my Max has never traveled farther than Queens, NY (he was born in the Bronx). Not sure if he'd like to travel by air though. My aunt and a couple of friends have traveled by plane with their cats and they say it's not that bad. My aunt took her cat to Texas and a friend brought her cat all the way from Puerto Rico.

Royal Wedding
by: Rich

Dr. Lucky was very put out by the way he was treated by Delta Air Lines. Since his actual title is "His Lordship Sir Dr. Lucky, Esquire, Knight of Nine Lives, Emissary to Her Majesty's Feline Service, Servant of the Kitty Empire" he was planning on attending the nuptials of Will & Kate. Considering his status, he consequently was going to fly first class. However, Delta said he had to fly "under the seat or in Cargo." For all of you who may be uninitiated into the celebrity of Dr. Lucky - he doesn't do Cargo. This is a first-class cat only. Cargo isn't the way to treat a Nobel Cat of Common Birth. How unfortunate. Delta obviously had no idea whom they were dealing with.

Zoey will probably want in on this lawsuit, although she is probably going to go after all of the striped cat offenders. You know being a Tabby of the highest order, her likeness is copied EVERYWHERE!

Her Highness wishes DR. Lucky the best of luck always, and looks forward to updates of his progress.

Sincerely

Dr. Lucky's Lucky Human
by: Jean from Tennessee

Hi Rich: You are extremely fortunate that Dr. Lucky has decided to share himself with you! Not many folks can ever hope to as blessed.

I very much enjoyed Dr. Lucky's stories and we hope you'll keep sending pictures and more stories. My white cat, Star (She's a Star, Baby!) found him VERY attractive -- just her kind of man. I bet they could swap some really tall tales. She loves to watch the world going by outside from her favorite windows and has to tell me everything she sees, of course, and her favorite meal -- surprise! -- is also TUNA!

Scholarly Cat
by: Claudia - Admin

Hi Rich,

I enjoyed Dr. Lucky's story very much. I wish my cat would love Academia as much as Dr Lucky does. By the way, the titles of those books sound quite intriguing. I'd like to read them myself, lol.

My Max likes reading cat stories and just like Dr. Lucky he too enjoys napping and eating tuna.

Thanks for sharing Dr. Lucky's story and picture - he's not only feline-smart but handsome as well.
