SNOWBALL

MY NAME IS BECKY. I HAVE A WHITE MALE CAT, SNOWBALL. HE IS ABOUT 3 YEARS OLD. HIS MOMMY WAS A STRAY CAT AROUND OUR HOME. I REMEMBER SEEING A WHITE CAT 1 TIME ALSO. SHE WOUND UP HAVING A LITTER UNDER OUR HOUSE. WHEN THEY STARTED COMING OUT WE FOUND A GREY KITTEN FIRST. MY NEICE TOOK IT. THEN WE FOUND ANOTHER GREY AND WHITE KITTEN AND MY HUSBAND TOOK IT TO THE VET BECAUSE IT HAD A WOLF IN ITS SIDE. A WORKER UP THERE KEPT IT. THEN THERE WAS THE WHITE KITTEN SITTING ON TOP OF OUR LAWN MOWER. WE CAUGHT HIM AND I IMMEDIATLEY FELL IN LOVE. AT FIRST WE THOUGHT IT WAS FEMALE. LATER ON WE FOUND OUT IT WAS MALE. HE HAS BEEN INSIDE PRETTY MUCH ALL OF HIS LIFE. WE DISCOVERED HE IS DEAF, AND AFTER TALKING WITH PEOPLE AND RESEARCHING I FOUND OUT ALOT OF WHITE CATS WITH BLUE EYES ARE DEAF. MY SNOW BALL HAS THE GREEN EYES. I READ THAT ONLY ABOUT 20 % OF THE ONES WITH GREEN EYES ARE DEAF. AFTER LEARNIGN THIS I REALIZED THAT WHEN WE CAUGHT HIM HE WAS MORE RELAXED AND TAMED UP QUICKER THAT THE OTHER TWO. AT THIS TIME I WAS AT HOME WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. SINCE SHE STARTED SCHOOL I HAVE GONE BACK TO WORK, SO I AM LOOKING FOR A COMPANION FOR SNOWBALL. HE HAS BEEN A GREAT JOY IN MY LIFE.

Snowball and Star Baby
by: Jean from Tennessee

Hi Becky: Thanks for your nice comments on Star Baby's web page! It is great to hear from you. I'm not surprised to learn that Snowball and Star look alike -- such beauty can't be contained in one cat so it had to spread out to Snowball and White Lily too. When I adopted Star she weighed 13 1/2 pounds the vet said. She's not been weighed since but she has kept her cat supermodel figure and I don't think she has gained more than maybe a 1/2 pound since then. She's an eager eater but I try to keep a close watch on her calories because we may need for her to come out of retirement and make some more money one of these days -- of course getting her to share it with me will be the BIG problem!

Happy Fall to you all in Boone!

Snowball: Quite the "snow" man
by: Jean from Tennessee

Hi Becky: It sounds to me like that good lookin' hunk of cat did a total "snow job" on you and caught you with absolutely no resistance from you. He is one clever dude, I think.

My aunt had a white cat with green eyes who was deaf also. This was over 50 years ago and I still remember that cat very well ... I liked to play her piano when I would go over to spend the weekend and if I forgot to put the cover over the keys her cat would wake up the entire household in the middle of the night by walking on the piano keys! That cat got along very well despite not being able to hear and lived to a very ripe old age, so as long as you keep Snowball close to you in heart and body, he'll probably do the same.

Thanks for sharing the story of your and Snowball. Do you have a picture you could share?
(By the way: Greetings from Northeast Tennessee! My blue-eyed white cat Star and I are only a few miles from you and Snowball.)

Furball
by: Claudia - Admin

Hi Becky,

Thanks for sharing Snowball story. I'm glad he and his siblings found loving homes. It's true that white cats are prone to deafness, especially blue-eyed white cats. Sorry to hear your kitty is deaf. But I'm sure he will lead a full life. Cats are very smart and courageous.
