Swimming cats... Is it possible? Well, the majority of cats are averse to water. Have you ever tried to bathe a cat? If you have, you know it's not an easy task.
But there are a few felines that actually enjoy swimming. Want proof? Below you will find several videos of cats swimming.
Now, can cats swim? Yes, cats happen to be good swimmers – when the need arises. You just won't see them hanging around the pool getting ready for a quick dip.
Some cat lovers I know say that you can train your cat to have regular baths, especially if you start when they're just kittens. I haven't tried so I don't know if it works.
Interestingly, the Turkish Van is the one domestic cat that loves swimming. Not surprisingly, it is called "the swimming cat".
By the way, the big cats, such as the tiger and lion love swimming. Experts say that felines that are native to regions with hot climates (like the lion) actually like water and swimming. Conversely, wild cats born in cold climates (i.e. snow leopards and bob cats) don’t like swimming.
